Legendary first-person shooter developer id Software says gamers will have to wait before 3D gaming will have any serious impact on the industry.

This week saw the annual event that is QuakeCon. 2010 proved to be a hit show with attendees, although some disappointments came with the no-showing of Doom 4.
Unfortunately, the game is not quite ready for it's debut, according to id Software president, Todd Hollenshead. More interesting points where brought up, during the event though, in regards to id Software's relationship with Nintendo's consoles. Read more |

Don't expect id Tech 5 to be next big thing in middleware, as id says it's keeping that particular toy to itself.

Speaking at QuakeCon in Dallas today, id boss Todd Hollenshead said that the engine powering Rage and Doom 4, id Tech 5, would not be licensed out as middleware, but would instead be kept within the ZeniMax family, which id became a part of last year. Read more |

Doom 4, in development at legendary FPS developer id Software, is currently without a release date, but it was brought back into the limelight when lead designer Tim Willits promised a 'faster turnaround' on its games.
id, the inventor of the first-person shooter genre, is famous for taking what feels like an age - at least to its fans - to get its internally developed games out the door. The last id-developed triple-A game was Doom 3, released in 2004. Read more |

The year 1993 saw the upcoming of the first person shooter games and the first one to popularize this style of gaming was Doom. It was estimated that approximately 10 million people were playing Doom. This was a big opening for ID Software and after that, there was no turning back. They kept on making hits after hits with Doom sequels and numerous expansion packs. After all their success, ID Software is back with Doom 4 to all the Console players. id Software Nuking Ports from Android Market. id Software is crying DCMA on ports of Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein loaded on the Android Market. id Software and its new-found parent company ZeniMax Media announced today that they are filing a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint against developers providing ports of classic id titles on the Android Market. There are eleven applications in question, including Android versions of Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, and another non-gaming app called Doom Soundboard. Read more |

id Software has released Doom Classic for the iPhone and iPod touch. A new version of the company's signature first-person shooter, the app recreates all of the original game's episodes, as well as the later fourth episode, Thy Flesh Consumed.
